Adult & Teen Challenge USA is made up of a network of separate 501(c)(3) corporations; each has their own procedures, policies and set their own fees. All Adult & Teen Challenge centers must meet the national accreditation standards to be an Adult & Teen Challenge center, but many details are decided at the local level.
2007 & 2011 Minnesota Studies
Between 2007 and 2009, 315 men, women, and youth graduated from the Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge 12-month Life Care program. Wilder Research, an independent evaluator, sampled and conducted one-year follow-up telephone interviews with these graduates. In total, a representative sample of nearly 60 percent of those graduates was interviewed by Wilder Research staff. Their findings reveal that 74 percent of graduates reported no use in the six months prior to follow-up, while 62 percent of graduates reported no relapses since graduation nor use in the past six months…
1999 Northwestern Study
The Adult & Teen Challenge graduates were selected from a nationwide sample comprised of adult non-adolescent male graduates of the three largest Teen Challenge programs: Rehrersburg, Pennsylvania, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Riverside, California. While there is variation between these three centers, the curriculum, rules and general program structure between the sites are uniform.
The number of federal dollars appropriated for drug treatment has steadily climbed over the past 40 years, from $120 million in 1969, to $1.1 billion in 1974, to $3 billion in 1996. This dramatic rise in spending has occurred even though the current group of illicit drug users is half the size of the same group in 1979. 1976 Pennsylvania Study
Prodded by the challenge of Pennsylvania Drug Officials to try and prove their 70% cure rate guesstimate, Adult & Teen Challenge started seeking funds for a research project. Their efforts met with success at the federal level with the National Institute of Mental Health.
