What is the Emerging Leaders Program?
It is an extended training program to identify, equip and train leaders who aspire to greater levels of responsibility within Teen Challenge. In order to ensure for success in the future, we must identify and train individuals of passion and calling. The Emerging Leaders Program is an avenue for achieving this goal.
The Need
Teen Challenge continues to grow. As a result of our expanded programs, there is no question about the continued need for quality staff. Teen Challenge will deliver extended training which will include on-site training, staff meetings training, internet-based learning, retreats and much more.
Purpose Statement
"To identify, equip and train emerging leaders who aspire to greater levels of responsibility within Teen Challenge."
Objective
"To provide an instructional program for enhancing the quality of longevity of leadership within Teen Challenge."
The Emerging Student Leaders Program
The first element of the Emerging Leaders Program is the Emerging Student Leaders Program. The Emerging Student Leaders Program is for Teen Challenge students who are enrolled in the residential program and have completed at least 6 months in the program. Students who are interested in becoming interns and possibly eventually serving as Teen Challenge staff members are selected by the Director and/or Emerging Leader Representative. They must first complete the six Core Courses during their remaining time as a student in the program. They will then serve a six month long post-graduate internship and complete six elective courses for their chosen track. The three post-graduate internship track choices are ministerial, vocational, and administrative.

To provide foundational training and mentoring to Teen Challenge students who feel called to give their gifts and time back to the Lord through ministerial, administrative or vocational related services in a local Teen Challenge ministry.
The Need:

Ministerial Track - (close)
Purpose:
To provide additional training and mentoring to students and/or graduates who feel called to give their gifts and time back to the Lord through ministerial related services in a Teen Challenge facility in the Florida /Georgia system.
The Need:
As the organization grows and expands, needs arise for the centers to fill ministerial roles. In the past, these roles have been filled with individuals who perhaps did not feel called or have not received the proper training. Teen Challenge must rise to the opportunity of properly training those students who are called to minister to people trapped by life-controlling issues.
The Emerging Leaders Ministerial Track will train and mentor student leaders so that their God-given talents can be properly developed and released. The end goal is that the emerging student leader develops into a productive staff member and becomes part of the Teen Challenge team.
Areas of MINISTERIAL service (not limited to):
Counselors / Teachers
Outreach Coordinators
Education Coordinators
Requirements:
Complete all 6 Core Courses
Complete 6 Ministerial Elective Courses
Opportunities of Ministry:
The corresponding center and Executive Director / ELP Rep can also provide means where further ministerial training and ministry experience is given, for example, opportunities to preach in chapels, teach PSNC classes, and leading devotionals. Other ministry opportunities may include, but are not limited to overseas missions trips and local community outreaches.
Vocational Track - (close)
Purpose:
To provide additional training and mentoring to students and/or graduates who feel called to give their gifts and time back to the Lord through vocational service in a Teen Challenge facility in the Florida/Georgia system.
The Need:
Two main areas of concern have existed in the past with regard to students and vocational needs. First, there has been too much dependence on student leaders without investing back into their lives. This trend can lead to increased risk, student burnout, too much freedom or simply feeling “used.”
Secondly, a growing center may feel forced to engage every staff into a counseling and teaching role when he/she is unqualified and/or not called in that area. This, too, leads to problem outcomes.
The Emerging Leaders Vocational Track will begin to train and mentor student leaders so that their God-given talents can be properly developed and released. The end goal is that the emerging student leader develops into a productive staff member and becomes part of the Teen Challenge team.
Areas of MINISTERIAL service (not limited to):
Auto mechanics, maintenance, food service, information technology, horticulture management, vehicle donation, construction trades, A/C & refrigeration technicians, irrigation, etc.
Requirements:
Complete all 6 Core Courses
Complete 6 Vocational Elective Courses
Opportunities of Ministry:
The corresponding center and Executive Director/ELP Rep can also provide means where further vocational training is offered. For example, local vocational technical schools will offer courses that the student/intern may enroll in for additional licensing and certification. Teen Challenge would seek to assist the student/intern in funding through vocational rehabilitation resources and other community assistance which may be offered. Furthermore, Teen Challenge and its local leadership can network with Christian businessmen in the community for employment opportunities for the future.
Administrative Track - (close)
Purpose:
To provide additional training and mentoring to students and/or graduates who feel called to give their gifts and time back to the Lord through administrative-related services in a Teen Challenge facility in the Florida/Georgia system or the Regional Administration office.
The Need:
As the organization grows and expands, needs arise for the centers and corporate office to fill administrative roles. In the past, these roles have been filled with individuals who perhaps do not feel called or have not received the proper training.
The Emerging Leaders Administrative Track will begin to train and mentor student leaders so that their God-given talents can be properly developed and released. The end goal is that the emerging student leader develops into a productive staff member and truly part of the Teen Challenge team.
Areas of MINISTERIAL service (not limited to):
Administrative assistants, events coordinator, special projects coordinator, human resources, payroll clerk, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, donor contributions, data entry, mailing list coordinator, vehicle fleet administrator, receptionist, etc.
Requirements:
Complete all 6 Core Courses
Complete 6 Administration Elective Courses
Opportunities of Ministry:
The corresponding center and Executive Director/ELP Rep can also provide means where further administrative training is offered. For example, local community colleges offer courses that the student/intern may enroll in for additional college credit and/or certification. Teen Challenge would seek to assist the student/intern in funding through educational resources and other community assistance which may be offered. Furthermore, Teen Challenge and its local leadership can network with Christian businesses in the community for employment opportunities for the future.
